Newcastle United youngster Reagan Thomson has been called up to the Scotland U17 national side for their upcoming fixtures in the UEFA Under-17 Champions Elite Round.

After joining the club on a scholarship contract from Queen’s Park in January, the 16-year-old has been called up for games against Slovakia, Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic, which will all be played in Scotland.

After managing to record seven first-team appearances in Scottish League Two for Queen’s Park, he has since linked up with the Magpies’ U18 squad, where he has clearly done enough for Brian McLaughlin to be impressed enough to pick him.

Despite his young age, he has already recorded five appearances at that level for Scotland, so hopefully, that should help him going into these set of fixtures.

He is no stranger to the big stage, though, considering that he is used to playing at Scotland’s national stadium in Hampden Park as that is where Queen’s Park play their home fixtures.

The games will be an attempt to qualify for the finals in May, and the games will take part between March 25 and March 31.

This is obviously an encouraging sign for the club that their youngster is still being considered for his national team after making the move.

It was a bit of a low-scale coup for the club considering that the player is from Glasgow and they managed to fight off the interest of both Rangers and Celtic.

Whether the games will go ahead now remains to be seen due to the number of incidents with coronavirus.

With Real Madrid’s players in two weeks of quarantine, it acts a bold statement to the rest of football that things are going to be difficult to get done in the upcoming weeks.

Either way, it can only be good news that a United youngster is getting selected to play for his country.
