Nantes have confirmed the signing of Anthony Limbombe from Club Brugge. The winger was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park earlier in the summer.
The Sun reported back in July that the Belgian international was a target for both us and Southampton, with the player valued at £11m.
However, L’Equipe report that Ligue One side Nantes secured the winger for just €7m (£6.3m); a figure which could well prove a bargain.
Limbombe performed well in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League last season, scoring six goals and providing six assists in 27 appearances for Club Brugge.
Not long after our interest was reported in the 24-year-old, we did announce a deal to sign Yoshinori Muto from Mainz. Even though they don’t play in the same position, the forward can play out wide, and it may be the case that our new no.13 was signed ahead of the Belgian wide man.
The Japanese international has yet to start a match since his £9.5m move from Germany.
