Just One Cornet-To Newcastle

|

Over the weekend, reports suggested that Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Burnley’s exciting forward, Maxwel Cornet.

The Chronicle reports that Cornet has a £17.5m relegation release clause which means any prospective clubs could pick up the Ivorian for an absolute snip.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City saw Cornet’s full potential back in 2018 when he was still playing for Lyon where the two teams met in the Champions League. Cornet scored twice against Pep’s men in that game with the City manager saying after the game “I was very impressed with the talent of Maxwel Cornet.”

Would You Have Maxwel Cornet At SJP?

Yes

No

The Burnley man is also being tracked by Nottingham Forest and Leeds, although no bids have been made yet.

Cornet was a stand-out player for Burnley last season and kicked off the season in blistering form bagging four goals in three starts. Former Burnley boss, Sean Dyche praised the forward’s ability while admitting the 25-year-old needed to work on the defensive side of his game.

Newcastle certainly have form in raiding Burnley recently, taking Chris Wood and Nick Pope off the Clarets’ hands, but whether Cornet joins the group remains to be seen with a bevy of other targets seemingly higher up the priority list.
