‘He is giving 200% effort’ – Fancy appreciate the hard work from this new signing

Lots of Newcastle United fans have poured messages of appreciation for Andy Carroll after the club released a video of the striker throwing his body on the line for a tackle.

The Geordie striker rejoined his hometown club in the summer after an eight year spell away from the club, and despite not scoring a goal so far, the fans are already loving him again.

After impressing in his first start of the season – setting up a goal as they beat high-flying Sheffield United 2-0 – he was dropped to the bench to play Southampton at home.

With the team 1-0 down, Carroll was called upon to make an impact in an all-important match at the bottom of the table.

That’s exactly what he did, too. While the ‘traditional’ forward is hardly known for his crossing ability, it was a perfectly weighted cross from the right touchline that got his side back into the game as Jonjo Shelvey nodded home his fifth goal of the season. The Magpies went onto win the game 2-1.

Where will we finish the season?

While his quality on the ball was important in that match, it wasn’t the only thing he was recognised for. The club released a video on Twitter yesterday of the forward putting in a hammering challenge well within his own half, to which fans loved – as you can read below…

United are currently in red hot form and find themselves just two points behind fifth-place after 16 games.

The next two fixtures are a chance to pick up more points too, with games against Burnley and Crystal Palace on the horizon.
