Goalkeeping Uncertainty

With Tim Krul sending out sound bites that he is returning to us in the summer, thoughts turn to the goalkeeping department in what is an overloaded position.

Krul who is on loan with AZ Alkmaar until the end of the Dutch season has been away to continue his recovery from what was a year long injury although his performances have been a mixed bag.

Talking in his home country to media site Omroepwest, Krul explained that he intends to come back to us when his Alkmaar season ends to fight for his place.

It isn’t clear what division we’re going to be in next season yet and it’s not certain that Krul would want to fight for the keepers top in another championship season either but this wont be known for at least a month.

Krul has been with us since 2006 where his competitive debut came in the UEFA cup where he made a brilliant debut and he’s been more than able over the years including a miraculous game against Spurs the other year where he single handedly kept out a barrage of attacks to allow us an unlikely win.

His career here has been knackered by a couple of shoulder injuries before he got a cruciate knee ligament injury two seasons ago to make it look like his time here was over but Krul seems to think otherwise.

Personally id keep him and Karl Darlow before selling the likes of Matz Sels and Rob Elliot whilst getting another keeper in, in the Summer.
