Word On The Tweet

“Goal of the decade”, “Biggest fluke” – Many Newcastle fans debate memorable moment

|

As we are all aware, coronavirus has brought football to a stop. But that hasn’t stopped the social media teams going at it.

With the rest of the season fully in the air, clubs’ Twitter accounts have been in overdrive to give their fans some content – and that includes Newcastle.

In fact, on Sunday the club didn’t even come up with it themselves – they encouraged others to get in contact with their favourite goals and videos and they would share them.

One of the requests was a classic from Newcastle’s most recent promotion season. Mo Diame’s crucial goal against Brighton at the Amex, where Christian Atsu’s horribly mistimed shot ends up spinning off to Diame who angles his foot so outrageously that the ball loops over the ‘keeper and ends in the net.

To this day, it is hard to tell whether it was a genuine shot, but if it was, it has to be considered as one of the most skilful goals as you will ever see in a Newcastle shirt.

Plenty of fans responded to it – some called it flukey while another called it ‘the best goal ever’.

Here are some of the responses below…

It was an important goal for the club as they went onto win the game 2-1, meaning it was the difference between winning the title and not.

It’s hard to argue that it was all purposeful, but just watch it again and pretend it is.

My oh my, isn’t it beautiful?
