‘Enjoy the physio room’ – Club update leaves loads of Newcastle fans disconsolate

Loads of Newcastle United supporters have been left disconsolate after the club confirmed the signing of Ludwig Francillette.

The 20-year-old defender’s arrival on Tyneside had raised much intrigue around to Deadline Day, as he was spotted at St James’ Park holding a Newcastle shirt. But the announcement was not made alongside Andy Carroll’s return and Emil Krafth’s arrival, with United only belatedly confirming his capture on Monday.

Francillette will now join Neil Readfearn’s Under 23s squad, and could make his debut in the Premier League 2 tie with Manchester United on Friday night, after impressing club staff during a trial period at Darsley Park.

The young centre-half is virtually unknown, but has spent time with French Ligue 1 side Dijon FCO and has represented Guadeloupe on the junior international stage in the past.

Fans, though, are not rushing to celebrate his capture following back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, which have left United in the relegation zone.

Supporters have also been quick to note his failed trial spell with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, who hosted Francillette earlier in the year before opting against handing the 20-year-old a contract with the Buddies.

Comments from St Mirren supporters during his trial period suggest the young centre-back will not be forging a first-team future with Newcastle any time soon, after fans noted that he displayed poor ball control and produced an array of loose passes.
