“The kids not ready”, “Couldn’t do any worse” – Loads of NUFC fans react to club post

Loads of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media, after the club shared that Elias Sorensen had scored for the Under 23s against Swansea City on Monday.

Our junior Magpies side travelled to south Wales for the Premier League 2 encounter with the Jacks, where we sealed a resounding 4-0 win to sit eighth in the table and put further distance between us and the winless basement boys Sunderland.

Adam Wilson opened the scoring after just 41 seconds when he drilled the ball home following a scramble in the box, while Rosaire Longelo later doubled our advantage 11 minutes after the break with a first-time effort into the far corner.

Sorensen made it three on 68 minutes, while Yannick Toure rounded out the scoring 11 minutes on when he connected with the Dane’s low cross to smash the ball into the roof of the net.

Does Sorensen deserve a chance in the first-team?

Sjunkeby, Denmark-born Sorensen hit his goal after a good bit of play from the Toon, which left the 20-year-old with an opening to beat Lewis Webb and effectively ice the encounter.

It was the U20 international’s second goal for our U23s since seeing his one-season loan spell with Carlisle United cut short, having failed to find the net in any of his eight League Two appearances – only one of which came in the starting line-up.

Some fans have now been suggesting that first-team boss Steve Bruce ought to offer the youngster a shot as he ‘couldn’t do any worse’ than Joelinton, with the £40million Brazilian now 22 Premier League games without a goal since his maiden strike against Tottenham.

Not all of the Toon faithful feel Sorensen is ready for senior minutes, though.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the club’s post announcing Sorensen’s goal against Swansea on Monday…

In other Newcastle United news, the club risk missing out on Bruce’s number one January target again following the player’s reported decision.
