Former AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe would be open to moving up North to take the Newcastle job if the club did decided the relieve Steve Bruce of his duties.

The report comes from the Chronicle and it is likely to peak the interest of Toon fans.

Howe has been out of work since he stepped down as Bournemouth boss following their relegation to the Championship last season but the incredible job he did on the South coast should not be ignored and he would be a big upgrade on the current boss.

The story of Howe at the Cherries is a bit of a fairytale, with the club in serious trouble when he took over and he eventually masterminded a glorious run that saw them reach the top flight against all odds.

Such is the negative mood at the moment, it feels like replacing Bruce with anyone could have a positive impact on fortunes but someone with the track record of Eddie Howe would be an absolute coup.

He has also worked with a lot of our players whilst at Bournemouth and the likes of Callum Wilson and Matt Ritchie would know exactly what to expect from their former boss.

In a week that has seen reports suggesting that Chris Wilder and now Howe would be open to taking the role, it is absolutely madness that the charlatans in charge of our club have decided to stick by Steve Bruce. It is complete and utter negligence.

We are two points clear of 18th with a game in hand, bringing in a new boss could give Newcastle a much needed boost to extend that lead but the form book suggests that Bruce will at least be given till we are in the bottom three. Why can’t our club be proactive for a change?

It should be noted that Howe has also been heavily linked to the vacant role at Celtic and Sky Bet have him as short as 4/7 to take the role at Celtic Park.

The same bookies have Howe at 8/1 to be the next Newcastle boss with Wilder and Graeme Jones joint favourites at 2/1.
