Dickman Leaves U-21 Role After Just 14 Months In Charge

|

Elliot Dickman has left his post as Newcastle’s Under-21s Lead Player Development Coach, the club has confirmed. Dickman only moved to Tyneside 14 months ago from bitter rivals Sunderland, but his time is now up at Little Benton after a recent shake-up across the academy set-up.

A club statement released on nufc.co.uk said:

‘The club thanks Elliott for his hard work and professionalism during his 14 months at the Academy and wishes him well for the future.

‘The club has made a number of changes across the Professional Development Phase of its Academy in recent months.’

Dickman, who retired from playing at the age of 20 through injury, made a name for himself at Sunderland’s Academy Of Life, starting out coaching the Under-8s and working his way up through the ranks. He became Under-23s boss in 2017 and during his time at the club, he helped to bring through the likes of Jordan Henderson, Jordan Pickford, and Josh Maja.

Dickman is the latest in a long list of  Under-21 bosses to leave the position in recent times at Benton, so the next appointment will prove to be an important one. Since the takeover, the board has been keen to improve the Academy set-up and has already overseen the signings of some talented youngsters they hope can play a part in the bright future of the club.

The Academy’s Head of Coach Development, Neil Winskill, will oversee Under-21s’ training before the club confirms its new Under-21 coaching line-up in due course.
