Bruno Returns Home Early From International Duty

|

Following in the footsteps of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes has returned from international duty after picking up a knock in training reports The Athletic.

Guimaraes didn’t feature in Brazil’s friendly against Ghana on Friday after picking up a thigh injury and was also set to miss out on tomorrow’s game against Tunisia. However, it is believed that the injury isn’t too serious and Guimaraes could still feature on Saturday when Newcastle travel to Fulham. It certainly didn’t stop him from having a good look round Disney Land.

Eddie Howe will be sweating on the fitness of three internationals who picked up knocks during the current break. Isak and Guimaraes both returned home early, while Chris Wood picked up an injury during a match against Australia while representing New Zealand.

The Athletic also think that Saturday might be too soon for Allan Saint-Maximin, despite his social media hinting that he’s raring to go. But it is believed that Callum Wilson will return for the game at Craven Cottage.

As Newcastle’s squad improves, so does the number of players representing their respective countries and therefore the risk of further injuries during these breaks. It’s a sad reality of the way football is run and one that Newcastle will have to get used to going forward. While we’ve always had the odd international amongst our ranks, they were few and cover was usually on par. We now find ourselves with star players who will be missed when they’re injured. It’s a double-edged sword, but it really hammers home the point that we need more squad depth as we go forward.
