Botman Reveals Who Was The First Player To Welcome Him To Newcastle – You’ll Likely Not Be Shocked

|

After a lengthy chase, Newcastle finally landed their main summer target when Sven Botman signed for the club. He has since gone on to feature regularly for the Magpies putting in solid displays at the back and proving himself to be an aerial powerhouse.

BBC’s MOTDx (Botman appears at 21:22) recently caught up with the Dutchman to ask him his “footballing firsts” during which he’s asked who was the first player to get in touch when he signed, and it will come as a shock to nobody that it was Mr Classy himself, Kieran Trippier.

Since joining the club in January, Trips has slipped into a leadership role within the club, not taking the captaincy away from Jamaal Lascelles as such, but you will regularly see him wearing the armband. Trippier recently spoke to NUFC TV of his captaincy and said that it doesn’t matter to him whether he wears the armband or not, he will always give 100% and lead as much as he can. So it’s no surprise that he was the first to welcome Botman by sending him a DM saying “Welcome to the club”.

In the interview Botman spoke of his first meeting with Eddie Howe via Zoom and also revealed that his favourite cheat meal would be a dirty kebab with loads of garlic sauce – I knew there was a reason I loved this dude. It wasn’t all good news though, he did profess his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo which made me wretch a little bit.
