Bruno Guimaraes: The Best We’ve Had – Opinion

|

Over the years, Newcastle has had some extraordinary players amongst its ranks. Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Alan Shearer, Yohan Cabaye … Albert Luque.

Now we can add Brazilian International, Bruno Guimaraes to that list.

When Kieran Trippier signed for Newcastle in January I thought he was our marquee signing, our statement. I’d long been an admirer of Trippier, always thought he was outstanding and when he joined the Toon I was absolutely buzzing, and I still believe he belongs in amongst that list of elite players to have played in the Black and White.

But then we went out and threw £38m at Lyon for Bruno Guimaraes, snatching him from under the noses of Arsenal and we had absolutely no idea at the time just how much we had blindly robbed Lyon. In today’s market I’d say that Bruno is actually worth at least twice what we paid for him.

I might be looking through my black and white specs, but I don’t see anyone outside of the “big six” who comes even close to Guimaraes’ level of talent. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the only team in the league he doesn’t simply walk into is Man City. Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Man United would all be improved by his presence in their starting eleven.

The next Vital Premier League Podcast will be out on Wednesday and I’ll be bringing up the point about Guimaraes being the best player outside the big six, and I can’t wait to hear what other people have to say on the matter.

What I love about Bruno is that he has that perfect level of arrogance. He knows how good he is, but he doesn’t let it go to his head, he doesn’t see himself as a one-man team or above anybody else. He is the perfect professional. Wait …. am I in love with Bruno Guimaraes?

But, aren’t we all?
