Loads of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by the Telegraph, claiming the Toon are not giving up hope on signing Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen during the January window.

Head coach Steve Bruce is keen on the forward and Bowen himself would like to sign for the Magpies this month, but negotiations with the Tigers over a deal have not proven positive for the club.

Newcastle chiefs are refusing to pay over-the-odds for the 23-year-old, as Bowen will only have a year remaining on his contract this summer once Hull trigger their one-season option to extend.

At present, United are only willing to offer City around £12million as an upfront fee, though the approach came with various add-ons which could see the total value increase over time.

Hull, however, are refusing to budge from their asking price of more than £20m despite knowing that Bowen only has at most 18-months remaining on his contract at the KCOM Stadium – a figure which left Toon executives ‘unimpressed’.

If no movement is made, Bruce may be left without the player he longs to have at St. James’ Park, as Newcastle could decide to walk away from negotiations as Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett sustaining season-ending injuries has made acquiring a new left-back a priority.

Will we sign Bowen this month?

Yes

No

Bowen has consistently been amongst the goals for Hull in the Championship this season, with the Leominster-born attacker’s longest drought coming in September as he went four games without finding the back of the net.

The 23-year-old has scored a total of 16 goals in 28 league appearances this term, having struck 11 in 21 outings on the right-wing and five in seven through the centre. Bowen has also been credited with five assists, and is yet to miss a starting line-up in the second-tier in 2019/20.

Boosting our strike force this month ought to be seen as a priority for the club – along with replacing Willems and Dummett – as only two of our 22 goals have been scored by offensive players, while defenders make up ten and midfielders have been responsible for the remaining ten.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to the Telegraph’s update into our pursuit of Bowen, and that a bid of £12m plus add-ons would not be enough to land the free-scoring attacker this month…

In other Newcastle United news, a youth international has told the club to forget about signing him this month.
