Botman deal may be back on

|

Newcastle Transfer objectives have been given a major lift as AC Milan seem to be distancing themselves from a Sven Botman move.

The Lille centre back made 47 appearances in 2020-21 and helped Lille secure their first Ligue 1 title in 10 Years. The Dutchman has struggled with Groin and hamstring injuries of late but is rated as one of the top Central defenders in Europe.

Newcastle had attempted to secure Batman’s services during the Christmas window but failed ultimately as Lille didn’t want to sell halfway through the season. The 22 year old, 6ft 3in  colossus would fill a position Newcastle definitely need improvement in. With the addition of Dan Burn, and hopefully Matt Target for a projected £12-15m the shoring up of the defence would be complete with the addition of the Dutchman and Lascelles still in post.

According to the latest news, Lille did not accept the offer to sell Sven Botman‘s card because “there is a lot of interest coming from the Premier League. Manchester United and Newcastle United are in the race for him. The situation is now complex.”

No doubt it will ultimately come down to who Botman wants to play for, will the pull of Champions League Football or the Manchester winning history turn his head, or will he fancy a challenge with a club looking to emulate both clubs but who also have ther funds to surpass either of them.

Time will tell however; the longer this drags on the less like the Toon fans will take to a player who may not be as committed to the project as they.
