“Be great to see you back” – Loads of Newcastle fans react to potential St. James’ Park return

Loads of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media, after Wor Flags asked the St. James’ Park faithful for their thoughts on a potential comeback.

Fan group Wor Flags announced ahead of the 2019/20 season that they would not be returning to St. James’ Park for the new Premier League season, at least until owner Mike Ashley is no longer in control of the club.

Their decision came after it was confirmed that Rafa Benitez would be leaving the Toon at the end of his contract, having failed to agree on new terms with Ashley during negotiations where the Spaniard requested greater control on transfer policy.

Wor Flags were initially set to stay away ‘until further notice’, but later clarified that only a change in ownership would see that their displays are once more seen during matchdays on Tyneside.

The fan group had been responsible for some of the incredible pre-match displays seen at St. James’ Park in recent years, including the biggest-ever crowd surfer unveiled at an English game back in May.

Their work covered the entire Gallowgate End of the stadium ahead of facing Liverpool last season at a size of 78-metres wide and 54m tall. It cost £15,000 to make, which was all raised through donations from members of the fanbase.

One fan asked Wor Flags on Monday if they would consider a return to St. James’ Park this season in order to help improve the atmosphere on matchdays again, noting that their question was from ‘the whole fanbase’.

Wor Flags responded by putting the question out on their social feed, and earned a lot of responses.

Personally would love to see them back, I wanted a sort of hostile/European night flag display that makes the stadium so much more attractive. I get your reasons, but feel like we might as well as fully get behind the team and try help push them over the edge.
