Another Crazy Swap Deal Mooted For The Toon

|

Italian publication Calciomercato recently proposed that Newcastle would use Alexander Isak as a makeweight for a move for Dusan Vlahovic from Juventus.

Now it seems like the Express are getting in on the fun as they seem to think that Newcastle are interested in Everton flop Moise Keane and are willing to throw in Allan Saint-Maximin as a sweetener for the deal.

This one does feel more believable than the Isak-Vlahovic story for sure, especially given the lack of game time we’ve managed to get out of Allan Saint-Maximin this season. And just because Keane struggled at Everton doesn’t mean he can’t cut it in the Premier League.

Keane has had very successful loan spells at Juventus and PSG, so we know he can perform at the highest level, despite it not really going his way in the Blue of Everton. Our friends at Vital Everton wrote a piece about why it didn’t work out for him at Goodison Park and it does raise a few red flags, namely a poor attitude. But that was a couple of years ago and chances are he’s matured since then. However, it does put him in the “unlikely” category given Eddie Howe’s philosophy.

Would You Swap ASM For Keane?

No

No

Yes

Just to add to the complexity of the deal, it would somehow mean that ASM would go to Juventus, Keane comes to us and Everton get … something. By the sounds of it, Juventus have an obligation to buy Keane at the end of the season for £24m but would be willing to swap Newcastle for ASM. Again, it seems like a very complicated deal which once again nudges it into the “unlikely” column.

The most believable part of this whole thing is that Allan Saint-Maximin leaves St James’ Park. Something just isn’t right with the Frenchman, whether he doesn’t get on with Eddie Howe or Howe doesn’t see him as part of the future, something just seems off. It’s obviously not being helped by ASM’s injury record, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this was his last season at Newcastle.
