Agent Trippier Is On The Case – Opinion

|

Do you ever see a post on Instagram or somewhere and create an entire story around it with no information beyond what’s in the actual photo? Well …..

What’s the winky face for eh? Is Kieran Trippier trying to tell us something? Is he telling James Maddison all about the Quayside and it’s amazing bridges? About the kebabs in Munchies? How he will show him around the city in January when he moves to Newcastle?

I get pelters on social media for writing about mental transfer stories that the media churn out as if I’d created them myself, so I thought …. why not create one myself? This is clearly the same level of input some publications put into their transfer stories, so here we are …. James Maddison is absolutely signing for Newcastle in January because here’s a photo of him with our captain who has posted a winky face emoji on the picture.

Is Maddison Coming In January?

Yep

Doubtful

Of course, this is all just wishful thinking and a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at the same time, our interest in Maddison isn’t new and there’s a good chance that a deal has already been worked out behind the scenes as we head into the last month before the transfer window opens.

Leicester had started to make a recovery this season before the break, so Maddison’s urge to leave may not be as strong as it was in October, but there’s no deny that Newcastle are heading in a different direction to Leicester and we must look like an exciting team to join, and if he’s had Trippier, Wilson and Pope in his ear while in Qatar, who’s to say they haven’t greased the wheels?

From my own point of view, Maddison is my number one target for January. I think our team is fantastic, the squad are probably over-achieving, but we don’t need to add much to it to take it up a notch, and while it’s going so well it would be crazy to unsettle the balance too much with too many signings. Maddison in January will see us through to the summer and a likely European qualification, then we can add more in the close season.
