Try Not To Laugh – Ronaldo Linked With Loan Move To Newcastle

|

The media is the gift that keeps on giving.

Reports have now come out that as part of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract at his new club, Al-Nassr, should Newcastle qualify for the Champions League this season, he can go on loan to St James’ Park so that he can have another crack at the Champions League.

This story was picked up by GiveMeSport from Spanish outfit, Marca. Both outlets running with the story without a hint of irony too, which is worrying.

Why has this come about? Well, because journalists have noticed that Al-Nassr is also owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. I’m pretty confident that’s where the truth in this story starts and ends, especially as there are no sources cited or quotes from anyone involved being reported.

Even if such a clause exists, I still absolutely do not ever see Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Newcastle, especially when Eddie Howe’s in charge. We’ve said it a thousand times before, there’s no doubting his talent and also no doubting the commercial advantages having him would bring to the club, but his attitude and his ego simply do not fit with what Eddie Howe has built at Newcastle United.

Obviously, to find out if there’s any truth to this one, Newcastle will first have to qualify for the Champions League this season, and although they sit in third place at the moment, there’s still a lot of football to be played.
