Tottenham v Newcastle – Match Preview

|

Newcastle make the trip to London on Sunday to take on Tottenham Hotspur live on Sky Sports – Kick-0ff is 4:30pm.

In this fixture last season, Eddie Howe was humbled as the hosts overturned Newcastle’s lead to run out 5-1 winners. This season, the lads will be out for revenge.

Howe has been reluctant to change up the team recently, but with this being the third game in quick succession and a couple of players carrying knocks from the previous games, I will expect some changes for this one. Tottenham are a different prospect to Everton, so you’d expect a tactical tweak too. Maybe the reintroduction of Matt Targett at left back to add a bit more pace down the wing.

Newcastle held Manchester United to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, and Tottenham fell to a 2-0 defeat there on Wednesday. Whether that translates into us being better than them, I’m not sure, but it’s something that should at least feed into the team’s mentality going into the game, especially as Newcastle go into the game off the back of a win and the hosts go in on the back of a defeat.

What's Your Prediction Against Spurs?

Home Win

Draw

Away Win

Heung-Min Son is not having the best of seasons, so Newcastle will be hoping that continues on Sunday. Nullifying that kind of threat will be key to success in the game. Tottenham have a strong squad and will be looking to bounce back, but Newcastle’s defence is rock solid. It’s going to be a battle for the ages with Kane taking on Botman. The big Dutchman managed very well against Haaland, so you’d expect him to deal with Kane too.

Predicting this one is hard. Form suggests a win for the Magpies, but with it being away that swings the pendulum back to Spurs. On the Vital Premier League Podcast I was feeling pessimistic and went for a 2-1 win for Tottenham, but now I’m going to go with ….

Score Prediction: 1-1
