Newcastle United have had a mixed month of August, marred by some very questionable decisions that have potentially cost us points in the Premier League.
However, when things have gone our way on the pitch, they’ve gone our way spectacularly, and that has been reflected with the nominations for August’s Goal of the Month competition where Newcastle find themselves with three nominees.
Fabian Schar’s strike against Nottingham Forest on the opening day is the first nomination. An almost identical replica of a strike against Burnley that won him Goal of the Month back in February 2019.
Also up for nomination is Kieran Trippier’s inch-perfect free-kick against Manchester City which hit right in the top corner leaving Ederson stranded.
Finally, there’s my personal pick of the bunch: Allan Saint-Maximin’s superb volley against Wolves which salvaged a much-deserved point. The ball dropped out of the sky from a poor clearance, and Maxi tracked the ball’s trajectory and met it sweetly, sending the ball flying past Jose Sa who didn’t even move.
Also, Nick Pope has found himself in contention for both Player of the Month and Save of the Month, the former being for his save against Brighton, although there could have been many more to choose from.
