Toon Linked Player Hasn’t Travelled With Team

|

New reports have linked Newcastle with an interest in German winger, Julian Draxler who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG have recently flown out to Japan for a pre-season tour but Draxler is absent from the squad potentially opening the door to a move away from the Parc des Princes this summer.

Draxler, 28, is a name that seems to have been around forever – I genuinely thought he was right at the tail end of his career – He’s been around on the International scene for years and has played over 60 times in the Champions League for Schalke, Wolfsburg and PSG.

PSG manager, Christophe Galtier, has deemed Draxler surplus to requirements following on from only making 12 appearances for the team last season. Draxler himself has spoken of his desire for more first-team football with the World Cup on the horizon this winter. It’s believed a bid between £20-30m would be enough to take Draxler away from Paris.

Is Julian Draxler A Good Fit For Newcastle?

Yes - Experience is key

No -Go for someone younger

The Chronicle claims Newcastle have a strict budget of £25m set aside for a winger, which seems accurate given the bids we’ve heard about so far. The Chronicle article also mentions a claim by Le10Sports that Newcastle are already in talks with Draxler’s representatives over a move.

If we could get Julian Draxler for £25m that would be an amazing signing. He has a wealth of experience playing at the top level, fighting for titles and would bring a lot more experience to the team. He’s a very different prospect to the likes of Dwight McNeil as he’d be playing at the peak of his powers right away as opposed to McNeil who would still have a few years of growth before we saw his best.
