Slimani Boost

Islam Slimani is in line to make his first appearance for Newcastle this week, so says The Chronicle.

Our local paper reporting that the on-loan Leicester striker played for nearly half an hour for his national side Algeria today.

Whilst Slimani’s presence is seemingly a boost for some of our fans in our battle against relegation, his appearance for Algeria didn’t entirely go to script as his side got beat off Iran and he got booked.

Slimani arrived at St James’ Park as the stopgap solution to our striking problems but has seen his loan spell blighted by a thigh muscle injury.

Further analysis sees that he has only played one full game for his parent club this season and featured in bits of others that see a further game time just shy overall of two full games. This is not good preparation for his potential emergence as a pivotal player to fire us to safety.

With eight games remaining in our season starting with Huddersfield on Saturday, at best he may be on the bench for this. Then we play his Leicester side and the terms of his loan see him sidelined for this.

This leaves a very short period of games for Slimani to try to win a contract here or be any use whatsoever but I’m here to be shot down with my view.
