After initially declaring that Loic Remy wasn’t in his future plans and that a deal seemed in place for a permanent deal here, Harry Redknapp played his usual card by changing the direction of his story.

The Newcastle Chronicle had Redknapp quoted as saying ‘I don’t know what the deal is. I don’t know what the chairman Tony Fernandes or [chief executive] Philip Beard have agreed.

‘I don’t know whether there’s a fee agreed or not. He’s certainly playing well for them. I said last season that he’s a 10 to 15-goal a season man.’

Alan Pardew had, earlier in the week, mentioned that a deal ‘is complicated’ but with a down payment of £2 million seemingly already been paid and the French international enjoying his football up on Tyneside, one would feel we are in the driving seat for Remy’s signature.

However, this is 21st century Newcastle United and things don’t run smoothly here.

Watch this space I guess.
