October is now Migtober

|

There is no doubt that this month has belonged to Miguel Almiron. He has scored as many goals this month as M.O.D.O.F. (Mechanical Organism Designed Only for Football), aka Erling Haaland. He’s staged his own Goal of the Month competition. He’s the first name on Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week team sheet and he’s learned to strike a ball with his right foot.

This page was recently in danger of becoming a Bruno Guimaraes fan page, but now Miguel Almiron is staking a claim to the throne after a mind-blowing October. Let’s have a look at his goals in Spooky Season.

1st October – Fulham 1-4 Newcastle. Miggy turns the world’s heads as he bags a brace at Craven Cottage, the first of which is a definite Goal of the Season contender. A lovely dink over the defence by Bruno for Almiron to lash his left foot at the ball and hit it across goal into the far corner. That dink by Bruno for Miggy to run onto is becoming a regular thing for Newcastle, it has happened at least once in every game since, not with such spectacular results, however. The second was a great striker’s goal, following the play into the box and being in the right place at the right time to tap in from a cross. (Match report)

8th October – Newcastle 5-1 Brentford. Another brilliant goal for the Paraguayan as he showed great awareness and pace to pounce on a short pass from the keeper to his defender, immediately putting him under pressure, the back pass was weak and Miggy was there to scoop it up, round the keeper and fire into an empty net. (Match report)

19th October – Newcastle 1-0 Everton. Miggy and Newcastle took a break from scoring, playing out a 0-0 draw with Manchester United, but he was back on the goal trail when Everton came to st James’ Park. After a swift counter-attack by Newcastle, Bruno finally places the ball at Miggy’s feet on the edge of the box for him to curl a beautifully weighted shot into the far corner. (Match report)

Which Was Miggy's Goal Of The Month?

Volley v Fulham

Curler v Everton

Tight Angle v Tottenham

Curler v Villa

One of the other two

23rd October – Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle. Almiron was once again a stand-out in a performance that bagged Newcastle the LMA Performance of the Week honour. A poor kick out from a woeful Lloris went straight to Longstaff who nodded it down to Miggy. Almiron then runs into the box leaving the Spurs defence in his dust and taking it to a tight angle and somehow managing to squeeze the ball beyond Lloris. (Match report)

29th October – Newcastle 4-0 Aston Villa. The lads absolutely smashed Aston Villa and Almiron wasn’t about to let the opportunity go by without getting in on the action. Bagging the fourth goal. It was another tremendous curling effort from outside the box, very reminiscent of the one he got against Everton. (Match report)

Almiron has been completely transformed this season, from the man who could run forever and achieve nothing, to the man who scored as many goals in a month as Erling Haaland. Long may it continue.
