After the initial shock surrounding our Argentinian ‘Gladiador’ Fabricio Coloccini and his desperation to return to home shores has died down. We find ourselves now trying to find the best solution for the club and him.

Not wanting to debate or delve into these personal reasons too much though, it’s obvious that he hasn’t been at his best and things on his mind explains a lot.

Now, it has been quoted in the media that Alan Pardew and the club want to sit down with him to ‘resolve this situation’ but I find it hard to see how they can and I expect one of two realistic outcomes.

Colo’s unhappiness has affected his game and if it’s a family illness then a loan MUST be the logical choice to see if it improves or resolves itself in the time leading up to next season.

If it’s a personal matter regarding a private/personal relationship problem then a loan IS the logical choice to see if he can resolve it in the time he has away.

If it’s something else then the same scenario should be played out, not only for the player’s well being but to protect our investment because that will be the club’s most pressing matter.

A short term loan until the end of the season is my personal choice and would probably see him return in August to then see out his contract but if we press to keep him until the end of this current season then I reckon we’ll lose him for good.

As ever, the final decision will probably be made to protect our premier league standing but is it really worth taking a gamble if an underlying problem may still be there?
