Newcastle won in spite of Steve Bruce

Knowing the ego of the man, he will probably be walking around singing his own praise following United’s 2-1 win at Burnley and nodding along to what he media chums Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage say about him but the truth is very far from that.

Bruce got the team selection wrong which was shown by just how terrible we were in the first half. It is easy to forget just how bad the first hour was at Turf Moor but we were second best in every single department and without the sheer brilliance of Allan Saint-Maximin would have definitely left empty handed and presented another opportunity to Fulham.

In opting again for the back five, Bruce showed his inability to understand that it should be horses for courses. It worked fairly well against Spurs, a side who are somewhat expected to take the game to us but up against a side that is arguably just as terrible as us, it just gave them far too much space and the upper hand.

Newcastle United have better football players than Burnley, the league table might not show that but it is true. It is down to Bruce in the first place that we are on their level but that is by the by.

We had to be more aggressive and try and take the game to them, it was clear they struggled with players running at them at getting in their faces but such was our anti-football approach, this seldom happened and it looked to be another loss until ASM saved the day.

Post game, Bruce managed to make himself look daft again by claiming his side had won back to back Premier League games. Considering our prior win was in the game against Southampton back in early February.

He has either forgotten the last few months happened or thinks we beat Spurs. Admittedly either is a possibility.
