Newcastle’s record signing, Alexander Isak has withdrawn from the Sweden squad through injury and will miss Sweden’s two upcoming fixtures.
Isak was training away from the rest of the team on Wednesday after he said he had a ” little feeling” and it seems that feeling was correct and the £60m man will return to Newcastle early. The Chronicle elaborates a bit further with quotes from the Sweden boss, Janne Andersson who said: “It is of course sad mainly for Alex but also for us as a team. After speaking with both our medical team and Alex, it is the right decision for him to leave.
“I hope he is back as soon as possible. Currently, we will not take out any new players. Now the full focus is on the preparations against Serbia on Saturday.”
The extent of the injury is not yet known, but Newcastle fans will no doubt be cursing the football gods as it seems that we can’t catch a break at the minute. We seem to get one key player back only to lose another.
Isak has bagged two goals already for the Magpies, three if you count the one against Liverpool which was wrongly chalked off … and I do, but aside from his goals he’s shown his class in other areas. His movement and eye for a pass are next level – Literally – the players around him can’t seem to keep up with his footballing brain, which is why we need our star players back to play alongside him.
Hopefully, the words “little feeling” and the fact that he was still able to train to some degree are indications that the injury isn’t too serious and he should recover in time for the next round of fixtures in the Premier League, especially as it looks likely Callum Wilson will be back and to see Isak and Wilson together is the stuff of dreams for Geordies and the stuff of nightmares for Premier League defences.
