More questions than Answers?

Newcastle transfers Maddison, Paqueta, Hojlund, Pulisic, Harrison and more.

Many of us are still wondering if, or when will Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth, manage to get in additional players into the critical and outstanding positions within the current set-up.

If Newcastle United’s opening-day victory over Nottingham Forest hinted at an exciting season ahead at St James’ Park, the club’s ultimate success may yet be determined by their remaining business this summer.

Eddie Howe, the head coach, continues to push for offensive reinforcements as he looks to add greater flair and depth to his attacking ranks.

Here, in his latest mailbag, The Athletic’s Newcastle United correspondent Chris Waugh seeks to answer some of those questions and, understandably, transfers feature prominently… Q&A

Will Newcastle bring in more Players before the window closes?

Yes- we still have time, and the money.

NO- The remaining players available will add nothing

I for one think that Dan and Eddie will push for a striker and a winger right up until the window closes, they have set their stalls out in the correct manner. Newcastle will NOT be held to ransom or pay a “Toon Tax” for highly inflated players.  The market is very challenging currently, you either have to pay extortionate fees to agents and players or settle for mediocrity. Newcastle will not do either, Dan Ashworth does not come across as a man who will capitulate over media and fans panic.

No one is expecting Callum Wilson to last a season without picking up some form of injury, this will leave us in the hands of Chris Wood as the only recognised out and out Striker, this may be the Toons undoing if not rectified in advance.

We have made a perfect start to the season, a long hard season that will inevitably take its toll on players and fans alike however: In Eddie and Dan we trust, so watch this space.
