Leeds United Might Finally Get Their Wish

Leeds United have often struggled to find a genuine rival in the Premier League with their only real derby being with Bradford back in the early 2000’s.

Leeds fans have often treated Newcastle as a derby, much like Middlesbrough often tried to do, but in both cases, Newcastle fans barely reciprocated.

However, news is breaking now that Qatari Sports Investments, the group that own Paris Saint-Germain are once again sniffing around Leeds with a view to a takeover. This isn’t their first time in the frame to takeover Leeds, as they had previously approached Leeds’ owner, Andrea Radrazzani about a buyout in 2018. Now, TeamTALK have heard that the QSI is back at the table.

If this one goes through, that not only gives Newcastle more of a challenge with another mega-rich club to contend with, but it’s no secret of the past troubles between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, many of which had to be set aside to force our takeover through. So while us fans may not see it as a derby, our owners definitely would.

Not to mention bitter fans of other teams who will label it another “oil derby” or something equally inventive – let’s be honest, it’ll be human rights-related.

There are still many issues that QSI face before any takeover could take effect, and it is just conjecture at this point, but it would certainly spice things up in the Premier League and provide an extra layer of challenge for Eddie Howe’s Mighty Mags.
