“It’s A Possibility”: Keith Downie Talks Of Possible Exit For Exceptional Midfielder

|

Keith Downie of Sky Sports believes that Newcastle could possibly be persuaded to part company with Allan Saint-Maximin in January.

Newcastle are a bit thin in midfield at the moment with big injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and now Bruno Guimaraes who limped off the pitch in tears at halftime during Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Fulham.

So the timing of this revelation is a tad sketchy, however, as we’ve speculated for months, something just doesn’t feel right with Allan Saint-Maximin and Eddie Howe since the former Bournemouth gaffer came to Toon. Although reports of a bust-up heading into the Sheffield Wednesday game turned out to be pure fiction, there does still seem to be something off that fans can’t quite put their finger on.

It is not surprising, therefore, that ASM is constantly linked with a move away from St James’ Park, and now Keith Downie has added fuel to the fire with his recent comments.

Downie told GiveMeSport that If Saint-Maximin goes – and I think there’s a possibility of that – and they manage to get some money for him, I think they could go out and buy someone.”

Obviously, we would need to replace Saint-Maximin, whether he fits Howe’s style of play or not, he’s a squad member who is often used from the bench, and that’s not something we’re in a position to lose at the moment. Therefore, we would have to have a transfer lined up to come in immediately following his departure.

As things stand, it’s all quiet on the transfer front for Newcastle with nothing more than wild speculation being bandied around. However, Newcastle’s moves in the transfer market tend to be swift and very low-key until they’re ready to announce something, so there’s always a likelihood that things are being worked on behind the scenes.

Personally, I don’t see Maxi leaving in this window, but I’d not be the least bit surprised to see him go in the summer.
