Following today’s clash between Bournemouth and Newcastle United, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Bournemouth hosted Newcastle United at Dean Court for a 3pm kick off on Saturday February 24, with both sides playing out a two all draw.

The visitors took a two goal lead with a Dwight Gayle brace in the first half, but in the final ten minutes of the game the hosts staged a then unexpected come back and found the net through Adam Smith and Dan Gosling to take a share of the points.

Teams:

Bournemouth:

Begovic, Francis, S Cook, Ake, Daniels (A Smith 45), Stanislas, L Cook, Gosling, Fraser (Mousset 63), King, Wilson (Defoe 73).

Substitutes:

Boruc, Surman, Pugh, Simpson.

Newcastle:

Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett, Ritchie (Manquillo 84), Shelvey, Diame, Kenedy (Atsu 64), Perez, Gayle (Hayden 78).

Substitutes:

Clark, Joselu, Merino, Darlow.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Roger East blew the final whistle, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe explained.

‘We had been flat – Newcastle were dogged and made it difficult for us, but you have to compliment the players for the last 10 minutes – that is what we wanted to be, we showed a lot of quality and character to come back. We started OK but conceded a poor goal and the second one wasn’t pretty either. They were both self-inflicted really, and it is incredibly difficult to lift yourself up from there. It’s another point that nudges us towards where we want to be – every one could be vital at the end of the season.’

Newcastle gaffer Rafa Benitez in his comparative interview explained.

‘It is always difficult when you have a team that is pushing at home but we had the chances to finish the game and didn’t do it, we have to improve on that. We were I think in control of the game and had a clear idea of how to do things. They didn’t have too many chances, I would say that the chance that we missed (Shelvey) and then the goal they scored quickly after, that changed everything. After that, we lost control. We have lost two points.’
