‘I’d happily have him’ – Potential Rafa replacement has loads of Newcastle fans talking

Rafa Benitez’s future at St James’ Park is very much still up in the air as we approach the final game of the season, and the name of one manager tipped to replace the Spaniard has fans on Reddit reacting.

That man is former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, with the Chronicle reporting that an agent with close links to the Frenchman has been trying to establish whether Magpies chiefs would be interested in hiring the unattached boss.

Wenger has remained unemployed since being fired at the Emirates Stadium last season, which brought an end to a twelve-year reign that saw the North London outfit win three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups – no manager has won more FA Cups than the 69-year-old.

Neither Wenger nor anyone in the employment of Newcastle have played a part in the intermediary’s actions so far, though, with the agent currently only seeking to know what sort of budget Mike Ashley would offer our next manager and what sort of philosophy the new boss would be working toward.

The fixer is also convinced he could sell a move to St James’ Park to the veteran Premier League manager, if the club were interested in hiring the Frenchman.

The Chronicle’s claim also comes in tandem with a nod toward speculation that Paris Saint-Germain had identified Benitez as a potential candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel at Les Parc des Princes. However, French outlet Telefoot have rubbished that idea with claims that the Ligue 1 giants are not planning on refreshing their coaching set-up this year.

When it was later shared on Reddit that an agent was offering Wenger to us, this is how some of the fanbase reacted…
