Some Newcastle supporters have been reacting on Reddit lately, after one user shared that Ayoze Perez has more Premier League goals this season than a range of Champions League-chasing and highly-rated forwards.
The likes of Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were mentioned, along with Leroy Sane, Pedro, Christian Eriksen, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez. As were forwards lower down the top-flight like Troy Deeney, Wilfried Zaha and Marko Arnautovic, who have been key men at their respective sides this season.
Of the names noted in the post, Rashford, Martial and Sane all have the most individual successful strikes, with ten goals to their names, but only Rashford has featured predominantly as a striker.
Eight of the England international’s Premier League goals this term have come when Jose Mourinho or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have started or brought him to attack the opposition through the middle. Martial, on the other hand, scored eight of his from the left-wing, where Sane also netted each of his.
Perez, meanwhile, has been shifted from the centre to each flank under Rafa Benitez this season, and has goals to his name from the heart of our attack as well as the right-wing, totalling eleven in the league – along with one off the bench in the FA Cup.
