The wait for Islam Slimani’s debut has been a long one, to say the least. We have had to be very patient since the Algerian joined on loan in January.
The player arrived at the club with a thigh injury, and although he was initially only expected to be out for a short period of time, things have dragged on to the point where he can now only play seven games for us before the season ends.
There is at last some good news about the 29-year-old. It was revealed the striker has been included in the training squad that is heading out to Spain as we make the most of the long break between league games.
The gap will hopefully aid the loanee`s recovery to full match fitness, so he will be fit and raring to go after the international break. On Twitter, supporters are just hoping he doesn`t pick another injury before our next match:

Rafa Benitez had been undecided on whether to take Islam Slimani to Spain last week. Must be very close to a comeback. #nufc

Surely he will get 20-30 mins off the bench against Huddersfield if needed.
