Many Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media, after Sky Sports reported that Everton are set to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as Marco Silva’s successor.
The Toffees parted company with Silva on December 5 after the Portuguese oversaw a run of two wins in 11 Premier League games, which left the Goodison Park natives inside the Premier League relegation zone.
Ancelotti soon became available after SSC Napoli opted to fire the Italian less than three hours after he guided the Serie A side into the Champions League Last 16.
It is claimed that Everton entered into negotiations with Ancelotti on Monday following the former Chelsea manager’s arrival in England, and that talks progressed well to the point a deal was agreed in principle by late evening.
The 60-year-old is now expected to be named as Silva’s successor as soon as Thursday or Friday, and could be in the Blues’ dugout when they face Arsenal on Saturday.
Ancelotti clinched the Premier League title and won the FA Cup during his tenure at Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011, before going on to add his third Champions League crown to his collection in ’14 with Real Madrid after previous triumphs with AC Milan in ’03 and ’07.
He also claimed domestic honours with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, but leaves Napoli without any silverware and holding the second-worst points-per-game average of his managerial career with 1.85ppg after taking 38 wins and 19 draws in 72 games across all competitions.
Everton are currently 16th in the league standings, four points behind Steve Bruce’s 11th-placed Magpies, who face the Toffees on December 28 and January 21.
Here are some of the messages shared as Newcastle fans reacted to Everton making the decisive call on who replaces Silva by narrowing in on the appointment of Ancelotti…

Going for an ambitious manager, our owner won’t make that mistake again.🤡

What happens when you commit long enough to the project, I’m sure in hindsight we’ll be looking at how it all went wrong in a year or two as usual, but Everton are such an admirable club, for much more than just having money thrown at them by the owner

They will be kicking themselves for missing out on Pardew

Ambition. A word scarcely used at #NUFC for years.

He’s been around the block alot, hasn’t lasted long too long at his last few clubs, not sure its a good fit with Everton. I’d have tried for Rafa or maybe given Big Dunc half a season, he’d got the running a bit at least, brought a bit passion into the team.

In other Newcastle United news, Bruce is planning for life without a £42k-p/w Toon man.
