Darlow Is Set To Go Out On Loan

|

Newcastle’s goalkeeper, Karl Darlow, 32, is set to join Hull City on loan for the rest of the season – but not until he’s warmed the bench at St James’ Park one more time.

The Daily Mail has confirmed that Darlow is about to join Hull, with Eddie Howe confirming as much in this morning’s press conference, but Howe clarified that Darlow will be on the bench tomorrow night when we take on Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg – “Karl will be involved with us tomorrow and then we’ll see where we are after the game.”

Newcastle’s second ‘keeper, Martin Dubravka is cup-tied in the League Cup competition having represented Manchester United in the earlier rounds, and Loris Karius is apparently not fully fit, so Karl Darlow will be asked to hang around before making the trip to Hull to join his new club.

The Mail believes there’s a good chance that Hull would likely make the move a permanent one at the end of the season, which would likely suit Darlow after making only 100 appearances for the Magpies in nine years at the club.

Darlow enjoyed some good spells as Newcastle’s number 1 when filling in for Martin Dubravka, but just as it was looking like he could make the position his own – often coinciding with Dubravka’s imminent return to fitness – he would make costly errors meaning Dubravka would immediately regain his spot with very little fuss.

Still, Darlow has been a tremendous servant to the club over nine years and we wish him all the success at Hull City.
