Club Announce Goalkeeping Coach Departure

|

Newcastle United this morning confirmed that goalkeeping coach, Simon Smith will be leaving the club.

His departure will bring an end to his second spell at St James’ Park having previously worked under Ruud Gullit and Sir Bobby Robson from 1999 to 2004. Smith returned to the club in 2015 following spells with the Canadian Soccer Association and LA Galaxy as well as an eight-year tenure with The Football Association.

Since 2015, Smith has worked under several managers including Steve McClaren, Rafa Benitez, Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe.

Speaking to the club media, Simon said: “It has been a great privilege to work for Newcastle United Football Club and I have hugely enjoyed the many opportunities I’ve had to work with our first team goalkeepers throughout the years.

“I will continue watching and supporting the team and wish them every success for the future as I look forward to new challenges ahead.”

First-team goalkeeping coach, Adam Bartlett will pick up where Smith left off. We wish Simon Smith all the best for the future.
