It’s a story that has been ongoing all day with no signs of any new information being released just yet.

Former Newcastle United winger, Christian Atsu is unaccounted for following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey yesterday. Two earthquakes hit southern Turkey and northern Syria late on Sunday night/early Monday morning and the death toll is in the thousands.

Hatayspor, who Atsu signed for in 2022 have confirmed that along with the 31-year-old winger, the club’s translator, Emre Aslan have yet to be found in the rubble after the building they were in collapsed. Several players and staff members have been found or have managed to escape from the wreckage.

Newcastle United posted a message on their twitter this morning saying they are “Praying for positive news” as are we all.

Christian Atsu played for Newcastle for five years – one year on loan from Chelsea and a further four years after signing permanently. He was part of the squad that dominated the Championship making sure Newcastle bounced back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. He also played for Everton and Bournemouth on loan from Chelsea.

We hope that we will have a positive ending to this story with regards to Christian Atsu and we also hope that it will be one of many, many positive endings. Keep your fingers crossed, your good vibes going, pray, whatever it is you choose to do.
