Callum Wilson Could Start England’s Next Game

|

Newcastle striker, Callum Wilson made his World Cup debut in England’s 6-2 win over Iran on Monday, coming off the bench and providing an assist for Jack Grealish.

Now it looks like Wilson may get more minutes under his belt with a potential starting place amid an injury scare for Harry Kane.

England’s captain is undergoing scans on an ankle injury he picked up on Monday, and if the news isn’t great, that opens the door for the Newcastle man to take his place when England face the USA on Friday night.

If Kane doesn’t make it for that game, the other Newcastle player to benefit could well be Kieran Trippier. Trips took the armband from Kane when he was replaced by Wilson on Monday. After the game, Gareth Southgate said: “I think Harry’s fine. It looked like a bad tackle but he carried on in the game. We took him off because we felt it was a moment in the game we could do that.”

Who Would You Prefer To See Start On Friday?

Callum Wilson

Marcus Rashford

Harry Kane

However, since then the news on Kane has taken a less positive turn with reports suggesting that Kane will miss Friday’s game.

Of course, Wilson isn’t the only name in the frame to replace Kane with Marcus Rashford making an immediate impact as a substitute on Monday by scoring with pretty much his first touch.

Whatever happens, the big hope is that Wilson comes out unscathed, but if he can do that while notching a World Cup goal, that will just be gravy.
