Some Newcastle supporters have been discussing whether or not it would be beneficial for United to make a move for Kieran Trippier, after he told reporters he would like to stay in England this summer.
The Tottenham Hotspur right-back is reportedly a target for Italian sides Juventus and Napoli, although Carlo Ancelotti’s San Paolo natives are thought to have snubbed signing the £65,000-a-week defender after deeming the 28-year-old too old.
Juventus, on the other hand, allegedly have Trippier in their sights after he helped Mauricio Pochettino’s North London side reach the Champions League Final, as the Serie A heavyweights may lose Joao Cancelo amid interest from Manchester City, who are said to be lining up a £50million bid.
Trippier, meanwhile, is understood to be valued at £40million by Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, despite the 2018 World Cup regular being dropped from Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this week’s Nations League Semi-Final and potential Final.
A move to Italy is also something Trippier himself is not yet convinced of, after sharing he would prefer to stay in the Premier League if he is to leave Tottenham this summer.
“Obviously this club has been very good for me over the last few years, but I’ll enjoy my summer, come back in pre-season, and that’s when I’ll sit down with the manager and have a talk about my future.
“I see a lot of speculation about me not being here. I give everything, 100 per cent every game, win, lose or draw. So we’ll see what happens in pre-season.
“I want to stay in England, but what can you do? I’ll see what happens and what the club wants, most importantly.”
Given we are expected to be in the market for new full-backs this summer, some Newcastle fans have been discussing whether or not a move for Trippier would be worthwhile…
