“An insult”, “Laughably low” – Newcastle fans annoyed with reported bid for star player

Following our impressive 10th placed finish in the league last season, we have a superb opportunity to build on that success and register another remarkable campaign. That said, it’s vital that we keep our best players, and Jamaal Lascelles must be kept at the club.

According to Sky Sports, we’ve rejected an approach from West Ham United for the services of Lascelles. It’s reported that the Hammers made an initial bid of £20M, with the fee potentially rising to £25M.

In addition to the Irons, it’s reported that Everton are also interested in the 24-year-old’s services, and it seems that we face an uphill battle to keep the Englishman at the club this season.

Here’s how Newcastle supporters have responded to the news on Twitter.

Verdict:

As previously mentioned, it’s incredibly important that our most valuable players stay at the club and given the highly-inflated nature of the transfer market, I believe that £25M is insufficient for a player of Lascelles’s calibre and potential.

If we’re to continue our development and progression under Rafa Benitez’s stewardship, then we must keep Lascelles at the club. He should not be allowed to leave.
