Following our impressive 10th placed finish in the league last season, we have a superb opportunity to build on that success and register another remarkable campaign. That said, it’s vital that we keep our best players, and Jamaal Lascelles must be kept at the club.
According to Sky Sports, we’ve rejected an approach from West Ham United for the services of Lascelles. It’s reported that the Hammers made an initial bid of £20M, with the fee potentially rising to £25M.
In addition to the Irons, it’s reported that Everton are also interested in the 24-year-old’s services, and it seems that we face an uphill battle to keep the Englishman at the club this season.
Here’s how Newcastle supporters have responded to the news on Twitter.
Jamaal Lascelles is the embodiment of what Rafa Benitez wants in his #NUFC side. He is an essential part of the club and has helped improve the bonds between club and city. A laughably low bid from West Ham quite rightly rejected. Worth double that offer at very least.

Another £100 million will do

Nice to see Ashley playing hard ball, he will get them up to 40m at this rate if he keeps these tweets up! Business man through and through

Triple it Ashley may make it happen. But he should not be for sale, we should be building a team not destroying one.

In today's market he is worth at least 45. Hope they don't sell though.

20m? Was that for his left or right leg?

Jamaal Lascelles is worth more to us than money, great captain and leader and a damn good defender, bidding £25 million is an insult

As previously mentioned, it’s incredibly important that our most valuable players stay at the club and given the highly-inflated nature of the transfer market, I believe that £25M is insufficient for a player of Lascelles’s calibre and potential.
If we’re to continue our development and progression under Rafa Benitez’s stewardship, then we must keep Lascelles at the club. He should not be allowed to leave.
