Fans have been reacting on social media to the news Sam Allardyce turned down the chance of a return to the Newcastle dugout after he revealed it on TalkSPORT.
He confirmed the club made contact through his agent but said he was quick to reject the opportunity, stating it wasn’t the right move for him.
Talking the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show Allardyce said: “I was extremely surprised, and I was very flattered.
“As much as I respect Newcastle fans and Ashley it wasn’t for me. I politely said no and moved on.
“It was about not going back. I thought about it but didn’t think about it for long. I looked at the situation but ultimately decided it wasn’t for me.”
Allardyce was the first manager sacked by Mike Ashley in 2008. He was appointed by predecessor Freddy Shepherd weeks before Ashley bought the club, and lasted seven months before being fired.
Newcastle supporters took to Twitter to share their views on the news that even a manager sacked by the current regime has turned the job down.
One stated it was good because ‘we sure as hell didn’t want you’ back whilst another felt it was so crazy ‘you could not make it up.’
If anyone still needs a picture of the unbelievable mess that Mike Ashley has created at #NUFC, Sam Allardyce has turned down the manager’s job. Sam. Allardyce.

I’ts sad really, we’re scraping the barrel, Sam Allardyce….really….but can you blame any manager NOT wanting the job working under that cockroach of an owner. yes men apply for the position

I wonder if Moyes, Pardew and co have turned down the job too and thats why they have had to pay out for Bruce ???? I wouldnt surprise me to hear that that is a long list of people who have said no.

I’d love it if Bruce turns us down too. You know you’ve done a terrible job at running a football club when the likes of Allardyce and Bruce are turning you down. Cements Ashley and Charnley’s reputation as a pair of clowns.
