Worrying Darsley Park update must see Bruce U-turn on rarely-seen Newcastle man’s place – opinion

Newcastle United head coach Steve Bruce must pull off a U-turn over Achraf Lazaar’s place in his plans, after the rarely-seen Magpie was worryingly spotted back at Darsley Park, according to The Shields Gazette.

Lazaar had flown out to Italy earlier in the month in the hope of thrashing out a transfer back to the Serie A, having been deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.

But it appears negotiations have either stalled or broken down, as the fringe defender was back in training with the United first-team earlier in the week while Bruce puts the squad through their paces ahead of our trip to North London.

Morocco international Lazaar will not be eligible to play against Tottenham Hotspur after being omitted from Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad, but Bruce must pull off a U-turn and include the left-back in his side to face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

The Foxes arrive in the North East on Wednesday, August 28, and the cup tie could be the final opportunity the Toon have to put Lazaar in the shop window with most European transfer windows closing at the start of September.

A strong performance against Brendan Rodgers’ Europa League-chasing Leicester could reignite any stuttering interest in the 27-year-old, who otherwise faces four months with the reserves until the winter market opens.

Fellow Bruce outcast Jack Colback was also spotted in first-team training and likewise faces an uncertain future, with the fringe midfielder reluctant to leave Tyneside despite being deemed surplus to requirements.
