Since joining us at Academy level around four years ago, Freddie Woodman has had a bit more coverage than the usual kid does.

Maybe it’s because his dad, Andy, used to be a coach here or maybe it’s because he has represented a level of football ahead of his years, im not sure but his contribution to the England U20’s winning the World Cup will mean that his stock has risen and he’s now known on a bigger stage.

Like Fraser Forster before him in being a Newcastle reserve keeper, im guessing that the club will think twice about selling in future as he’s almost certain to feature in the England national side in the next five years or so.

Woodman saved a penalty in the World Cup final to allow England to say they’ve actually won a major trophy at a level for the first time since that well spoken of 1966 triumph and with it he also got the golden glove award.

Not 21 until March next year, Woodman may get a loan to a championship side you would expect before stepping up his attempts to gain the Newcastle number 1 shirt in the next few years.

Contracted to us until 2020, surely there’ll be talk of another long term deal coming soon as Newcastle wont want to be stung like we did with Forster
