There have been a lot of memorable moments at St. James’ Park over the years, some a lot better than others.
From glorious goals by Hatem Ben Arfa to Jonas Guttierez scoring after his return from battling cancer, there are fond memories to reflect on amongst the bad.
One moment that every Magpie will remember, for better or worse, was the 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in 2005, which became infamous not only for Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer fighting, but for an unusual red card for Steven Taylor also.
Will Mike Ashley sell?
Yes
No
Looking back on the match it was quite a comical moment, though it was anything but at the time, and in fact it was quite a remarkable piece of goalkeeping to stop Darius Vassell’s strike on the goalline.
Supporters have been looking back on the incident, which enjoyed its 15th year anniversary on Thursday, and the reactions have been quite varied.
Some have used the occasion to laud Taylor, who was a young player at the time, and to his credit he went on to play for us until 2016.

When you think about it now it’s absolutely shocking from the villa striker not to be able to score from that position, he should’ve been sent off for just being rubbish!

I think if they had VAR back then, he would’ve got away with it! 😳

Steven Taylor going full Willem Dafoe in Platoon was the one bright spot in an otherwise horrendous day for #NUFC. 😂 https://t.co/eMjqEW2sKx
