Newcastle United are still waiting for their first Premier League victory of the season after Saturday’s goalless draw with Southampton extended the winless streak to ten matches.
The Magpies are joint-bottom of the Premier League, only above Huddersfield Town on goal difference, and it is fair to say the situation would likely have been a lot bleaker if it wasn’t for the performances of Martin Dubravka.
Signed in the summer after impressing on loan from Sparta Prague in the second half of last season, Dubravka has been a mainstay in Rafael Benitez’s side this season and his performance against the Saints caught the eye.
While the team continue to struggle, the displays of Dubravka can provide a platform to build upon in the coming months and supporters on social media were quick to identify just how crucial the Slovenia international will be this term.
