Why Burnley is a must win

Next up for Newcastle United is a trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley in what can only be described as an absolute must win for Steve Bruce’s men.

We currently sit four points away from the Clarets and this is a big opportunity to drag another side into the relegation battle as well as hopefully put some much needed distance between ourselves and the dreaded drop zone.

Newcastle have already got the better over Sean Dyche’s men once this campaign and it is a game that Toon fans will remember fondly as a rare occasion that we were the better side and got all three points.

Allan Saint-Maximin played a blinder of a game and was a constant pain for the Burnley backline; he opened the scoring with a great finish and turned provider for Callum Wilson after Burnley got an equalising goal via Ashley Westwood.

Wilson completed his brace from the penalty spot to cap off a thoroughly deserved victory and Bruce will be hoping that his side can produce a similar sort of outcome when they make the trip to Lancashire this Sunday.

Regardless of what happens before we take the pitch, it is an absolute must win but matters could be made even worse if Fulham were to get a positive result in their game on Friday night.

They face Wolves on Friday night and a win for the Cottagers would mean we go into the game on Sunday in the bottom three.

The major reason for why this game is so massive is the run in we have coming up and Burnley represents one of few remaining games to pick up points.

After Sunday, we go up against top four contenders West Ham and Liverpool before welcoming Arsenal to St. James’ Park. Leicester and Man City follow on to complete a truly horrible run of fixtures for the magpies.

Not even the most optimistic of Toon fans would be able to see us picking up too many points from that sequence at the best of times but when the side has won two games in 21 attempt, it seems impossible.

Hopefully, we can take spirit from the comfortable 3-1 victory over Burnley from earlier the season and attack the game in a similar manner that may just get us over the line to three massive points!
