Having moaned previously about the release clause in England`s Michael Owen, the latest slap in the face comes as we find out that Oba Martins has had a similar piece of ‘get out` nonsense inserted into his contract. Said to be in the region of £13m, it`s just another joke piece of business from Shepherd, selling the club to players on the basis that they can sod off a year later. What about long-term commitment Fred?

Anyway, yesterday Oba was quick to do something Owen has failed to do in two months – that`s come out and state his intentions to the fans. Far from swanning about around racecourses with ex-teammates, Martins was quick to nail his colours firmly to the black and white mast the same day he got shot at in his Merc. That`s why people sing his name Michael and not yours.
